Question about crossfire

This may be a odd question but what card do I hook my monitor up to. The one on the primary PCIX slot ( were you would have you card if only using a a single GPU) or the the second card that is in the second PCIX slot?
I look threw some video on you tube showing cards in cross fire but the never showed the back of the case. the instructions I got with the cards never showed what was the proper way either.
 
At this time one is in the PCIe x16 slot the second one is in the PCIe x8 slot.
I have a device on the way that will let me put the second on in the other PCIe x16 slot.

I ask this because long ago when we used add on cards that did only the 3D graphics you always hooked it up to the add on card.

Being there is a crossfire cable hooking the two together I thought I may have to hook up on the secondary one in the PCIe x8 slot in order to get the use of the second card.
