I was wondering on cordless mice and keyboards, do the keyboards and mice have to point to the little ir reciveer? I mean i wil have the keyboard and mouse about 7-8 feet from the reciver but the keyboard will most probably be pointing in a perpendicular to the reciver itself? Would this work? can anyone with the LOGITECH CORDLESS FREEDOM try it out?

Some are radio based, & do not require line of sight transmission.

I had a cordless Intellimouse Explorer for a while, & found some of it's features rather annoying. Mainly the fact that it shut itself off WAY too frequently for my tastes (it does it to conserve power, of course), resulting in a slight lag when you moved the mouse the next time.

most annoying feature of the cordless mouse/keyboard (i have a logitech Cordless/Mouse combo) is that the mouse keeps going to sleep to conserve electricity (it runs on 2 AA batteries). it's annoying that the first movement of the mouse gets no response cause the thing went to sleep.

The Intellimouse Explorer is radio based, not IR. I used it from a good 10' away when I had it.

I haven't found a radio based keyboard, though I never looked all that hard.

The range the logitech cordless mouse is only officially 6 feet, but mine seems to work ok up to about 8-9 feet, so I'd be careful about using the thing at >7.

Yep, the vast majority of the cordless mice use radio waves. You can hide the receiver where ever you want (within reason). Be forewarned, cordless mice are less than optimal for gaming. The refresh rate of only 50hz is a bit lackluster.

Here's a good review of a handful of cordless components.

The problem i see is RANGE RANGE RANGE...the reviews i read are kinda vague on the actual ranges they got....But i did find 2 RF bundles or key/mouse...one is only 29 on pricewatch ...im a lil suspicious, but dansdata has a review, they said they got pretty good results, and the manufacturor claims 1.5 meters, dans got a lot more then that....

BUT PLEASE ...ask around i need to know which one is the best...

the logitech ones run on radio frequencies:p i have like 3 of em, 2 ball one optical:p if your a gamer, its a bad idea, 50hz refresh is not kewl. i use mine on my laptops so its fine:p as for range, i havn't tried past 10-15 feet, theres no real point:p if i sit back from my 19" monitor even 6 feet i have trouble seeing text, so unless you have a massive projection screen i don't see the real point in sitting far away :p plus the reciever base has a cord so its not limited to range from your cpu box.

as for the battery conservation, the newer ones i don't notice ems hutting down, the led varries in brightness all the time so its pretty fast.

unless your bent on wasting batteries or squinting from afar your better off with something kewl like the corded dual optical logitech:)
