Assuming a person is "hired" for a contract position stating it's for 12 months, how permanent is that position for that particular person for the duration of that 12 months?

Am I correct in assuming that if said person is employed via some sort of staffing agency for that position, the contractor is actually the agency and not the actual employee person in question?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not enough info. Depends entirely on the agreements between the parties. If you're hired through a contracting agency there are two agreements involved, so their relationship with you may differ from their relationship with the client. Typically there is not much guaranteed in the contracting business other than the rate.

That's pretty much what I thought in general.

The intention of the time frame is that the end client expects to need the body for that period of time.

You screw up, you will get dropped, just like any employer. No notice is needed to be given.
If you do good after the original contract length; the end client may keep you on as a contractor, convert you to a full time employee or still drop you even if work is still available.

Most contract agreements will indicate that everything is at the discretion of the end client.

some will try to put in wording that you have to provide 2 weeks notice to terminate; but they do not.

Always cross out that notification and indicate that the terms for voluntary termination are the same for both parties, unless there is "for cause"
