Comcast just turned off their local newsserver and I just got an email from Giganews saying I'm already at the limit.

Does Comcast automatically charge you if you go over?

Some of the CSRs are just plain stupid
Eric > Hi, I just starting using Giganews and got an email saying I've already reached (slightly over) my 2GB monthly limit.
Eric > Does Comcast bill me if I go over the limit?
Eric > If so, how much.
Bill > Thank you for contacting Comcast. Hello, my name is Bill, how can I help you with you're questions and concerns.
Bill > hi eric
Bill > How can I help you today
Eric > Hi, do you see my question?
Bill > yes
Bill > One moment please
Bill > the news settings has changed and it is not for the username the primary account name which is ericfi@comcast.net
Bill > so you will need to type this whole thing for the username
Bill > xxxx@comcast.net
Eric > What? That's not what I asked
Eric > I'm wondering if there's any charge if I go over the 2GB limit
Bill > also
Bill > new server name is newsgroups.comcast.net
Bill > you would need to goto www.giganews.com for more information
Bill > Customer has closed chat and left the room
Are there live people there or is it just a bot?

A comcast CSR told me my that the reason I wasn't getting a DD 5.1 signal from the cable box to my Onkyo was because I wasnt using a component cable connection and that using an optical cable would not work. He then told me he was getting 5.1 sound on his own system using only the red/white analog connections from his cable box...

They don't charge you, it rolls over to the next cycle. If you go over by 500MB, you'll have 500MB less next month. 1GB is much too little when they count headers. Comcast sucks :(

What is the point of these newsservers. I hear about them all the time, but never used one before. What are they for.

Sadly it is not a bot. I have comcast, and have used their live online chat help before. It is a person not a bot.

in cases like that have them send a tech over..the tech guys know thier stuff and are pretty friendly. I modified my plan through a CSR on the phone and everything seemed OK. Then later that day all the channels stopped working! I talked to a CSR twice and they didn't know what the heck is going on and tried to send a 'hit' to fix it multiple times (I guess it's like a reset). Eventually they sent a tech. He looked at it for literally 5 seconds..whipped out his phone and called someplace to send a 'deep hit' to my cable box..and then it worked!!!

if they were especially bright, they would not be comcast csrs. they would be installation techs or even work somewhere else entirely - like mcdonalds
