Hi!

I have verizon with an old plan that's $49.99 / m.

I went to bestbuy to buy a new phone, a Samsung GLIDE and I was told that I HAD TO UPDGRADE my plan to a more current one which is going to cost me $59.99 /m.

Is this true?

Thanks!

First off, wrong forum!!! You should have posted here. Depending on the mood of the mods, this will be locked, or moved.

As for your question, more info is needed. What do you have in your old plan?

You'll need a data plan for that phone which is probably not included in your current plan.

i bought a new phone and was able to keep an existing plan that they no longer offer. I did it through the new-every-2 program which should allow you to specify you're keeping your plan. May just be a retailer like best buy thing where they can't offer the same. Go to VZ's website and check out upgrade phone.

I didn't sign up for the data plan for the xv6800 - it was an option to pay per kb on the sign-up page so it's $0/mo. Just like to use the wifi for free instead when/if it's available. I really don't like buying stuff in retail stores... the left hand doesn't work with the right.

The data plan would be more than $59. I think the $59 plan gets you 450 mins & unlimited texting, and you get charged for any data used. I'm not sure though, because I don't use Verizon.

I do not believe that is your only option but yes Verizon is changing people over to the newer America's choice plans that charge for data 1.99/Mb instead of the older plan that used call time, unless you get a v-pack with unlimited data for my Dare this is $15.00/Mo and if you use data at all well worth it. It all depends on the phone whether you need to change and the starting plan with 450 anytime unlimited nights and weekends is 39.99 texting plans run an extra $5-15 depending on how much you need. otherwise are .20/text. For all the details on what is included and your other choices see the VZW site.

That may depend on the features you want in the new plan. If your old plan did not include Internet access, and you want that with the new phone, the upgrade may be necessary. Otherwise, you generally can replace a phone if you have fulfilled your contract with another phone and keep the same plan. Check with VZF to make sure.
