I just got a Samsung R225 w/1-year T-Mobile (VoiceStream Wireless) agreement. Every cell number has 10 digits right? Also, when you dial locally, do you still have to dial the area code? Because I do.

i think that depends on your provider (and possibly region?). i dunno about mine, i always dial it anyways. my dad has voicestream... i think he gets away with just 7 digits. not sure about that though.

Hmm, guess I'll have to give them a call ... when you dial a cell number from home though (10 digits I assume), how do you dial it? Any numbers preceding it?

Local people can just dial my 7 digit number and my cell will ring. It's just like using a land line, if i want to call local, I dial 7 digits, and local people calling me do the same. If I want to call someone in FLA i need to dial 10 digits, just as someone in FLA calling me would have to.

Dialing the last 7 of my own cell doesn't seem to be working. When I dial the last 7 it says the person I'm trying to reach is unavailable. It doesn't even ring but says it right away. And my phone is turned on so it can't be that. I'm in Cincinnati, OH if that matters any.

I have to dial all 10 numbers plus 1:| we found out that we are paying long distance charges everytime we call my cell phone.:|

I have Sprint. So in my local calling area(most of southern california) I can just dial 7 digits for calls back to the 310 area code, 10 digits for everything else. If I'm in the bay area or something, then I have to dial 10 digits to call back to the 310 area code.

i guess it would depend on the provider... and area code

here in NY
my nextel has a 516 area code... so i can dial any 516 number without dialing an area code.
if i dial 718 or 631 area codes, i have to dail the area code.

when i had verizon, my nextel had a 917 area code... so i always hadda dial the area code.

Wow. VoiceStream rocks! I just called their Customer Care line (got almost instant response too) and got my cell number switched to use a local area code, so now other people can call me from this state using my last 7. Sweet!
