Question about CD-RW's

Hello all. I'm currently looking to buy a new CD-RW after my plextor finally gave out, and I am amazed how how much the price gap between plextors and lite-on's have widened in the last year. My question is this: the CD's I burn I am hoping to last for ~10 years (i.e. long enough to go onto whatever the archival format is in 10 years), and to do so I am willing to pay a premium. All my CD-R's are tayio yuden or mitsui, but since my plextor died, I am wondering, is there really that big of a difference between the burn quality of plextor's and lite-on's? I am especially curious since I am 99% sure that plextor's refuse to burn a CD faster then it thinks is tolerable, since I've noticed it refused to burn some brands at higher then 24X or 16X, with some of my better media going up to 32X. Also, I noticed the discs burned at 24x on a lite-on and plextor seem to be slightly different physically. Mainly, the gap between where the speeds change is MUCH more visiable on one then the other (I did no further tests to figure out which was which), and I am not sure if this is a good thing or not . . .

you sure have a different point of view (10 years... etc)
depend on the rate of current optical tech, i will say we will (forced to) switch to DVD-R (or DVD+RW, etc) in 2-3 years. But it my thought.
Why pay extra when you can get a 48X CDR for $16 at staples (this week after rebate)? they are lite-on.

But sorry i can not help you for your question.

I loved my 12x10x32 plextor. May it rest in peace. My 40x liteon sucks ass. Buy another plextor.

If your having a problem with your Lite-on, RMA it. I have used about 5-6 Lite-on's all of which work great. Quiet and get the job done.

On the other hand, I had a Plextor, that died on me after two months of use. Just because you had that experience doesn't mean Lite-on's are garbage.

I agree with AMDSoldier - every Lite-On I have ever used has been well worth the price I paid for them. And this goes back to the days of 20x CD-ROMs.

I would think the expected lifetime of a particular CD would be more a function of the blank media used and not the CD burner.

I happen to still love my 12x10x32 plexs, but love my 40x lite-on and 32x Samsung more.

You might wanna run.....I think it's C2 checks....on a variety of burn types? I'm thinking this function of CDSpeed is now included in Nero? Yes?
