question about case components, what is this? (with pic!)

That's a PCI card holder for steadying the unsupported end of (old fashioned) really long PCI cards. You don't see that type of card very much nowadays so I either take it out of the case or use it as a place to route some case wiring through.

wholly cr@p. i kinda remember those old things sorta. i just bought this case though lol:)

are there really any cards that long being sold now?

heh, that makes sense, i think:) i just remember a long long time ago i had a 286 with a hercules video card that was very very long. well it was my dads:p its been chucked now so i can't take another look at it:(

We use processor boards here that require those supports, its just not common in typical consumer products.

Yup, thats a long card. :p WAY back in the day I remember some of those cards that ran the whole length of the PC...crazy.
