Right now I have a radeon 9100 pro, which, as I understand it, is basically an 8500 pro, rebadged. They don't seem to exist any more, and I need a new card because the bearings in my fan are shot (it's very noisy)... what can I get that is not worse in performance and cheap (ideally with no fan)?

I've found cards based on the 9250, x300SE, and 9600 mobility for cheap and fanless - are any of those not slower than what I have now?

I don't game any more so I don't really want to spend more than $50 on the new card.

I'm open to equivalent nvidia options as well.

There are plenty of fanless cards available in the R9000/9200/X300 range, or FX5200/6200 cards from NVIDIA.

If you are happy with your current card, you could also just put a fanless Zalman cooler on it. $20-30, I think.
 
Is there a decent list somewhere of low-end cards and their relative performance? I've had trouble finding benchmarks comparing the cards I'm interested in.

Thanks, I had not thought of that. Is there a fanless one that uses a clip rather than adhesive?

Which 6600? 6600? 6600GT? 6600LE? How do the three compare? Is that a 9600 or a 9600 pro? The many variants of each core are the main thing making this difficult 🙁

6600 nu
6600le is abovw x300se but below the 9600(that mobility radeon you listed).
 
The CompUSA I rarely frequent still has 32MB Radeon 7000's + above. I don't think they're more than $20. 🙂

Thats a lot worse than an 8500 though.

I'd get the cheapest 9600 I could find with a 128 bit memory bus and OC the hell out of it.
