question about car tire pressure

spanky

Lifer
i got a flat today, so i put my donut on. while driving, i hear some funny noises coming from my car, so i pull into a gas station. i noticed that the donut needed air. no biggie... pull up to the air compressor. now, before i put my quarters in... i figured i should check how many psi my donut is rated for. to my surprise... the label read 60 psi. what i am wonder is... how come my regular tire suggests 29 psi... but my weasel donut suggests 60 psi?

It has to do with the design of the tires...they are totally different and the spare does not have the sidewall support for 30 PSI so it runs at 60.....this is another reason they suggest lower speeds on the spare and limitied miles too.

Some ten-speed bike tires require high pressure like around 100+ I believe. I guess the smaller the tire the more pressure required.

smaller contact patch tire (narrow) will require more air pressure since it has to support the same weight as a tire with a larger contact patch.

I went 80 on my donut yesterday. I did it without a clutch just to see how the engine ran. It still needs a timing adjustment.🙂

I run 200 psi on my road bike.

sounds really bumpy unless the pavement is like glass!
