so Im doing research and everyone says that before I step into the dealer, I must know what my credit score is. Most dealers will try to screw me and say my credit is worse then it really is.

what if I do not finance through the dealer? I plan to finance through my credit union. Will banks and credit union usually try to lie to you, or is it just car dealers?

reason I'm asking is that I do not want to run too many credit inquiries....so if banks and credit unions credit checks are usually accurate, i will not bother.

credit union is a really good place to finance through if you are new to the process

if you have good credit, some models/brands are offereing 0% deals, you can't really get screwed on that, other than the price

go to your credit union, apply for pre-approval, if you like it apply for a xx,xxx$ loan (ensure you cover a little more than the price of the car alone, to account for tax title and license)

bring your nice credit union check/approval form/fax papers to the dealership. tell them you will pay yy,yyy$ MAX (ie. total out-the-door price (except TTL))... if they dont like it go somewhere else
