i was looking through the circuit city ad, and they had this . And in the ad it said it was ipod ready with an ipod connected straight to the player. Buy usually, an ad would say that an adapter or something is needed. Would an ipod adapter (which is like $100) be needed for this one?

the new alpine decks can control an ipod through the actual deck (no 1/8" stereo -> dual RCA adapters). You do have to buy a separate box to hook the iPod to that then connects to the deck via Ai-Net

actually, you are incorrect for the 2006 models. They now make a direct (what they call ipod Full Speed) cable that connects from the back of the HU, right into the iPod.. No seperate box needed.

The cable is normally $30, but with a few of the 06 Alpines, they were giving it away free.

aaaaah, nice. i just got an iPod today ($225, almost new, go me!). I'm going to have to settle for the 1/8" -> RCA adapater for now. can't wait to get a new Alpine deck so i can get the ipod in the truck

nice to know the alpines no longer need a freakin box. but yes, the simplest solution is a headunit with aux line in. its odd how few seem to have it though. for a while there many of em were trying to push consumers into buying their harddrive based mp3 headunits or something silly
