question about canadian currency

I read that they don't use the $1 or $2 bills anymore because they replaced them with coins. My question is, if I have some $2 bills left over, can I still use them? My mom gave me a bunch of canadian money that she never exchanged back and some are $2 bills.

You can still use them.. but save people headaches and go to the bank and exchange them.. either for american cash, or canadian. which ever you prefer

Edit: Yes, we changed to coins a while back.. I think they might be cheaper to produce (?).. or at least they will last ALOT longer.. so if they do cost more to manufacture, they are much more worth it.

They're still legal tender, however you could probably sell each of them on eBay for like $3.

i'd take them to the first canadian bank you see to get them converted into something else. most retailers would find them to be a nuisance nowadays.

I heard an interesting story about a guy who went into a fast food restaurant in America with a $2 american bill. The person serving him had never seen one (didn't even know they existed) contacted his/her manager who had never seen them either. They ended up calling the police on him (because they thought he was a counterfeiter).

Well the police came and straightened out the mess. I would recommend going to a bank and exchanging the small bills for coins to avoid this problem.

There is nothing worse than buying a pack of gum with a $10 bill and getting nothing but change back.

the 2 dollar bill is considered a collectors item now. If you use it in a store, the cashier will probably take it, put a 2 dollar coin of her own into the cashregister and then pocket the bill.

I have a bunch of 2 dollar bills... they are kinda neat too look at...
