The House of Commons is in shambles right now. There's a hige sponsorship scandal in which hundreds of millions of dollars were improperly handled and the opposition wants elections ASAP. There's a vote of confidence regarding the budget next week, if it doesn't pass then there will be elections.

Honestly, the behaviour of the politicians lately is deplorable and embarrassing, they're all bickering and finger-pointing at each other instead of doing anything productive. The leading party is mired in this scandal, while the opposition sees in this scandal an opportunity to shoot down the minority government and grab the power for themselves. It's a sad state of affairs, really.

In laymen's terms, the parliament is basically a bunch of elected officials that sit around and b!tch at one another.

Raynor is exactly right about the sponsorship scandal in that it has basically turned the government upside down. Rightly so perhaps...

Not that I'm much into politics... I voted NDP simply b/c I wanted change and their policies on the major issues coincided with my views.
