Okay... I'm curious as to how many calories a typical person burns in a workout. I normally do between 10 to 15 machines/weights, plus 10/15 minutes on a treadmill... so, I'm burning about 150-200 on the treadmill immediately, but I'm curious how many calories I end up burning during the entire workout.

Any ideas or experience?

Good question...I wonder how much calories a person does actually burn doing weights....I know running and other cardio activities take off quite a bit.

Cardio is purely calorie burning (to my knowledge).... weight-lifting tends to work the muscles themselves, not the cardio... but with increased muscle mass, you burn more calories a day, etc. So you're still burning more calories... I think.

you got to do cardio for at least 20 mins for it to be effective......

depends on your size and how hard you are working out for those times. Weights I say won't burn that many calories but if you are Weight Lifting and actively moving you will burn more, if you squat you will burn more then if you are just working out your arms. Your arms are comparitively much smaller then your legs....

if you are doing any type of movement you are burning calories. Even if y ou are doing nothing you are burning calories. If you stare at a womens breasts for about 10 mins thats equivlent to a light jog for 20 mins! It raises your heart rate enough to the same affect.

Hmmm... I haven't heard that before. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I go lifting.

TRUST me work out your legs doing real squats not stuff on machines then you will a BIG rise in strength and in weight lost at the first month as you'll lose fat in your legs no matter how in shape you are if you haven't squatted yuou will have waste fat their. Then you will quickly start to bulk out.

Squatting is the fastest way of putting on weight. Your legs are bigger then you will burn more calories when doing NOTHING. It makes sense.

if you haven't been working out your legs then you will be getting gains slower then if you did work your legs out....
