question about boxing gloves

can someone tell me the significant difference between 12, 14, and 16 ounce boxing gloves? like when are the 12's used? or the 14 and the 16? What would be good for a few friends getting together with proper headgear, mouthguards, and a bottle of lotion to box safely yet fun?

you CAN'T box safely - if you're in the ring with me!! hahahahahah!

seriously, though.. all the headgear in the world won't save you from a perfectly-landed knockout punch..

I think 12-oz is what most of us would normally use.. 16oz is for like Tyson, Holifield, and the Jolly Green Giant.

i still dont get how boxers dont get bruised up all over from boxing, unless they do?

and what do you need lotion for? so the gloves dont 'stick' on the punch? so it slides i assume..
