I'm also having a blood test tomorrow. I don't do any drugs, but I'm curious as hell what happens to people who do.

I just had a blood test done for insurance purposes and was told they would check for diabetes, cholesterol, HIV and nicotene and alcohol. I would imagine they could check for THC in the blood.....I know it's primarily detected in the urine. OH!! Damn...I gave a urine test too...yikes!! J/K. ;)

If your mom asks them to give you a drug test they can but I don't believe they normally do, each test costs money and doctors are not in the business of wasting money.

I've been meaning to call up my doctor and get some routine blood work done for signs of liver damage(can never be too careful).

The only drug test I've been given was by my insurance company. I don't actually know if they gave me one, but I had to pee in two cups and I know it's a common practice.
I have never drank so much damn water in my freaking life.

They won't test for anything other then what they're getting paid to test for. Now if your mom asked them to test for drugs and didn't tell you that's an entirely different story (IE: You're f'd)

A mom doesnt get her teenage son checked for cholesterol, me thinks you might be getting pawned.

That's what it sounds like to me too.
Start drinking a gallon of water daily and exercising like your life depended on it.
Or be honest with your mom about your drug use?

I thought that would only help w/ urine tests, not blood tests?

Yeah, I think it stays in your blood a lot longer than in your urine.

Ding ding. THC stays in the blood for a month or more. Some drug testing devices can detect up to 4 months of usage by analyzing the amount of certain enzymes cannabinoid receptors give off when stimulated.

It helps to flush the system out, it's the same reason it's recomended for any drug test. Drinking a bunch of water on the day of to dilute the urine is a different story entirely.

Since when? They'll gouge the insurance company for as much as the insurance company will authorize, needed or not.

I'm not so sure about this. THC is stored in the fat and is slowly released. The "one month" thing is so innacurate it's not even funny. A skinny guy with a fast metabolism who only smokes once would more than likely be clean in a matter of days.
An overweight stoner who smokes 8 times daily might test positive for more than a month after cessation.

I really doubt insurance companies authorize drug tests on routine blood work because testing for drugs in blood is expensive.

Testing for THC is MUCH easier to do with a urine test.

I've never seen nor drawn anything to detect THC in the blood.(and i work in an inner city hospital where nearly every other person tests positive for something)

Urine only.

So chill man.

How old are you? If you're under 18 they might not have to tell you. I really have no idea about that though.

Yes, it can be detected in the blood. From what I just Googled, how long varies with how much you use it.
Same with urine.

Hm, so companies saying they won't hire you unless you are drug free for a year have no way of proving it past a month tops? Learn somethin new everyday... must've fallen victim to the propaganda train. :(

They won't look for THC, or any other illicit drugs in blood.

Urine is the typical matrix for them to analyze it in and is much easier and cheaper. Potentially, yes, they could analyze it in blood but they would have to ship it off to some lab specializing in esoteric testing which is so beyond practical it is reasonable to assume that it wouldn't happen.

If it is worth anything I used to work as a chemist in a drug testing company - so take that for what you will.

If she has valid reasons for the blood testing they will most likely just look at whatevers valid to the patietns request. You could also ask the doctor - use the client/patient card if possible (that is if youre not very young).

On a side note. I got busted good during a blood test when I was younger. I still hear the damn story at times to this day.
