Question about Best Buy & Circuit City

OutHouse

Lifer
I was in BB Sat buying a new 30 gigger and somthing made me notice something.

At BB or CC you can buy just about anything to upgrade or build your system except for two things.

MOBO and CPU's. I wonder why?

I know a lot of you guys hate BB or CC but it sure would be nice to go down and pick up a MOBO or CPU like you can with the other Peripherals.

I'd say it's because their average customer is pretty clueless when it comes to computers, and they dont want a bunch of fools buying mobos and bringing them back.

plus, i don't think they could make money off mobo's and cpu's. they wouldn't move them quick enough, and we all know that cpu prices drop almost every week.

I tend to think that all these B&M's cater to specific customers -the regular everyday home users and not as much to the technically saavy.
Most people would rather buy preassembled machines rather than going thru the challenge of building one from scratch. Plus there's a lot more that can go wrong when setting up cpu's and mobo's compared to hd's and cdroms.

Almost everything you can buy at Beast Buy is something you add to or upgrade on a PC, while the mobo and CPU are the core of the system. You can upgrade the video or audio, add another HD or burner, etc. without having to rip every piece out of the box, like a mobo swap entails.
