Question about Athlon MP

You don't need a dual processor board to use the chip... Just make sure your BIOS supports the newer chips.
 
The latest BIOS for that board is dated March so I don't know. I have read that boards that don't specifically support the Palomino chips will work fine but just detect it as a regular Athlon instead of the Palomino flavor. Windows doesn't care and you can make use of the new 3DNow! Pro instruction set (SSE), etc., if your applications support it. Of course, that's just what I read and I rarely make posts here unless it is something I've done or know for a fact so take it with a grain of salt.
 
i recall reading that the A7V133 actually recognized the chip as being a Palomino, unlike the other motherboards...not sure where i read that though
 
There are several members on this board that have gotten the athlon mp to run on a couple of different boards. I knw expox DDR baord supports it, and the MSI k7 Master does has well.
 
I dont think the A7V133 ever will... I remember something about its 2-phase power system and not supporting the Palominos.

A common misconception. Palomino does not require 3-phase power. That's a marketing buzz word only. It does allow the voltage regulator and such to run cooler, since the workload is divvied up more. But on boards with 2-phase power, large heatsinks compensate for it. Palomino will operate just fine with 2-phase motherboards.
