I'm going with my gf to Aruba next month. We're doing some tours, but we'd also like to head off on our own. I was planning for a day to hit a beach (Arashi) and the Arikok National Park. I'm assuming I can get to the beach by car, but how about the Park? Should I rent a Jeep Wrangler instead of some econobox?

You can do Arikok in a rental car. There are parts of the island that need a 4x4, but Arikok doesn't let you go off-road. To get to the more wild places of the park you're required to park and then walk in.

If you have a chance, check out the natural pool as well as baby beach on the south side of the island too

We'll be staying at a hotel on Palm Beach. So a day trip to Arikok and Baby Beach should both be doable by car?

we rented a car for a day and did the entire other side of the island.
Its been a while.. so don't remember Arikok and Baby Beach.. but it was like the moon over there compared to the beach side. definitely something to see and do though.

im going to Aruba in March, can't fucking wait!

i've been there one time before and we went and saw the natural pool. we rode horseback to do that though, but saw some 4x4 going around there as well. definitely not a regular car though, the terrain is bad around there.

I went to Arashi and did the Antilla ship wreck snorkeling tour. That was pretty cool. The southern coast is all accessible by bus. You could even walk or bike it if you wanted too. It's not that far from the main hotel district.

I never went to the other side of the island. Was only there on a day trip as part of a cruise. There used to be a good restaurant that served live lobster on a peir by the Holiday Inn. Huge ones. I think it was called the Pelican. There were sail catamaran tours being sold out of the same building. See if it's still there.

Aruba sucks. Way too windy for a good "beach / sand vacation" Not to mention it is basically America but hotter and on an island. Way too commercialized for my taste.

The only fun part was the Kooko Kanuku bus tour with drinks and dinner.
