Question about airports

On saturday I am flying to vegas, according to the site at Johny Wayne airport it says to arrive 2 hours before the fligh is this REALLY neccesary? Has anyone flown out of John Wanye specifically that can tell me if 2 hours early is overkill or a must?

GRRR, why is there a question mark in your title? You're not asking a question! Your title is a statement, or at least part of one.

😀

Edit - Thank you. 🙂

With airports all over the country making even more stringent security checks, I would go 2 hours early. Saturday is likely to be a heavy travel day and that means a lot of people traveling who aren't familiar with the routine.

First, at the check-in counter they fumble for a photo ID, can't find their ticket, refuse to believe they can only have one carry-on, and ask 50 more questions. "Can I have a seat in the exit row?" [print....print....print] "No, wait, how about by the bulkhead? [print...print...print] "Um, that was a window seat, right?" [print...print...print] "On the left side?" [print....print....print]

Then, at the security scanner, they have to go through 5 times before it doesn't beep. Each time, removing one more metal item instead of dumping all their change, keys, wallet, neck chains, etc. at one time.

These are the people who are walking away from the checkpoint complaining about the inconvenience. Get behind a few dozen of those people and two hours won't be enough.

you should arrive atleast 2 hours early. I was a good idea before, now it is the bare necessity. That will hopefully be enough time to get to the plane, but it is still possible that you would miss it if there is some sort of extra hold up.

I flew from DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth International) to LAS (vegas international) Last thursday. Definately 2 hours. Check-in of baggage took about an hour, and security took about an hour. As soon as I walked through the carry on check thing they began boarding. Don't take any chances.

On the way back from LAS to DFW, baggage check-in only took about 30 minutes, and security about 15. Had an hour to kill, but still, better to be safe than miss the flight.

BTW, do yourself a favor and see the Blue Man Group at the Luxor. You won't regret it. Be sure to post in OT if you do see it.

I travel about 100 days a year. If you have checked baggage, then you want arrive about 1.5 hours ahead of time in case of long lineups at the checkin. If you have carry-on baggage only, 45 minutes to 1 hour should be fine.

Not sure about John Wayne airport, but you'll need every bit of 2 hours at Mccarran if you're leaving at a busy time.

Bring a book. I really would get there two hours early. You never know.

I live in Minneapolis. I?m what you would call an infrequent flier. I just returned this morning from a trip to Las Vegas. I flew on America West. They only have a small presence at Minneapolis/St. Paul International, two gates and one is shared with another airline, I think. When I walked in, the line at check-in was about 40 minutes. At security, I made the machine beep and I was frisked. They even x-rayed my shoes! I had keys and change in my pocket, a silver necklace, a belt, and a metal watch with a metal band. All that took about 10-15 minutes. I was surprised that once I got to the gate, I only waited about 25 minutes before they started boarding. Two hours wasn?t too much, in this case.

America West has a relatively large presence in Las Vegas (McCarran) International. The check-in line was only a few minutes because they had lots of people working the desk, even at 11:00 PM, when I arrived. Because I?m a fast learner, I got wise at security. I didn?t wear my necklace, and before I entered the line, I took all the change and keys out of my pocket, and took off my watch. I put it all in my carry-on for them to x-ray. The machine did not beep, and I zoomed right through. In fact, the longest line I waited in to get home was at the MGM Grand, for a cab ride to the airport. Two hours was a little much in this case, but I had brought a book along, ironically enough, Tom Clancy?s Rainbow Six, which starts off with a plane hijacking.

Good luck in Las Vegas. It?s quite spectacular. Bring a lot of money and have fun!

Edit: Las Vegas' airport is called McCarran.

PS: The Blue Man Group's show is about $80. We would have loved to go, but we decided that it wasn't worth the price. BTW, they were fully booked at least two days in advance, so call the Luxor and make reservations if you think you'll want to go.

I would arrive atleast 2 hours early. We left from DFW last week on a flight leaving at 6am. We arrived at the airport at 4:30am, to which everyone told us was plenty of time. When we arrived at DFW, there were all kinds of people there and mass confusion. We stepped foot on the plane just 10 minutes before departure.

Arrive atleast two hours early. Carry on the plane as few things as possible. Be prepared to take your coat off and your shoes off to have them x-rayed. Be prepared to stand in long lines. We also noticed that people wearing jackets, prior to boarding, had to have their coats rechecked and their bodies rescanned by someone at the gate. Also keep a photo ID close at hand, you'll be showing it frequently.

check my thread from yesterday or the day before, i just got back as well. you did yourself a great dis-service by missing the show 🙁

best show ive ever seen, kicked absolute ass. never seen anything like it. glad you had a good time though, i had a blast there as well.

Well, we were all about to go. They were sold out for a couple days in advance. The only seats left for us were in the very back.

I?ll go the next time I go to Las Vegas, and I might catch them sooner if they tour anywhere closer to me than Chicago.

It depends on the airport. I did some flying this holiday and the wait in Indianapolis was like 1hr. Charlotte was 15-20mins. Asheville 5-10mins. This was how long it took to get from my car to the gate.

Hey all thx for the replies, I will go 2 hours early even though I have whats called tickeless travel. Its some thing Southwest Airlines does, I dont need to go to the ticket counter with this kind of thing they use.

As for the rooms and things in Vegas I am a pretty decent gambler and my room is comped for New Years at Manadalay Bay. I will be taking around $3000 to gamble with this trip. i havent been to vegas for over a year now which is VERY unusual for me. I would normally go every 3 months or so.

This will also be my fourth time in 5 years to go during New Years, the first time I went for New Years I got to see the implosion of the Hacienda, which is now where Manadalay Bay is GO FIGURE . If you have never see a building brought down it is quite a cool thing to see.

have you flown like that lately? i had the same thing with ATA, no tickets, just a name. still had to go through the baggage check-in thing to get a boarding pass and something else. you could not go through the security line unless you went through baggage, didnt matter if you didnt have any baggage to check in, you still had to go through the line. double security i guess. just a heads up.
