Question about airports

So, I've done some googling, but I couldn't come up with an answer to this question. We have all been there standing in line at the airport with our shoes, belts, jackets, etc in hand waiting to go through the TSA security checkpoint. Yes, it's frustrating and possibly pointless, but I understand that it's for safety.

Anyway, after standing there for 30 minutes and you're almost next in line some moron walks up to the front of the line, flashes an airport ID, and cuts in front of you. Can they do that? I had it happen where the guy doing it was probably just a bag handler or something (judging by the work jump-suit he was wearing). I'm sort of okay with letting the pilots go ahead of me because, obviously, the planes aren't going anywhere without him/her. But some random airport worker? I have a problem with that.

They always seem so entitled to cut in line just because they work at the airport. Yes, it would suck if they had to wait in line just to go to work, but we as citizens have to wait in line to fly. There are certain sacrifices that people make for supposed safety.

Is this an FAA, TSA, or airport policy? I've confronted these people a couple of times and all they do is flash an airport ID at me. I'm not about to get into a "thing" right in front of a security checkpoint, but it really frustrates me.

Cliffs
1. Airport staff cut to the front of the line at security checkpoints
2. Can they? If so is it a Federal thing or is it up to the individual airports?
3. Am I being overly-sensitive when I think that this is unfair?

You'd probably be the first to complain when your bag doesn't arrive at your destination because the ground crew had to wait in line at security too.

I bet you'd complain about high ticket prices too. Meanwhile, the airlines would be paying these poor saps to stand in line for half their workday...

Umm ... if he's a baggage handler, wouldn't you want your bags on your airplane?

I like MikeyIs4Dcats' signature ...

People are inherently stupid.

Stop complaining and wait in line.

Even though they work there they still gotta go through security. Stupid to make someone who is there to work wait in line for half an hour.

Airport employees count as pre-screened and are going to be much quicker about the procedure than Jimmy and Susie going to grandpa's house for spring break.

😕

your 30 minute wait would be 60 or 90 minutes if the people working at the airport didn't have access to the airport

Guess it's just me, then.

Anybody know if this is an airport or Federal policy or if it's just "understood"?

slow news day>>???

Orlando is actually making all workers go through security now due to a few employees smuggling weapons onto a plane a few months ago.

Just let them cut you. They're the ones that keep the airport running.

Agreed... I'd let them in front of me if I knew they worked at the airport...
