Question about airport security

Ok, so let's say I check-in at the SanFran airport. Then I fly to another aiport where I have a 4 hour layover before flying on another airplane. If I get both my boarding passes at the SanFran airport, can I leave the airport for a couple hours and then get back through security to catch the 2nd leg of my flight?

edit: I should say, if I want to meet people for lunch and they can't get through security to the terminal area. I want to just go out in the general area outside of security.
 
you could, but I don't think 4 hours really gives you a lot of time to sight see, just stay in the terminal for anything less than 6 hours.

Yes. Those "security" agents at the airport - what a joke. You could probably draw up a ticket on crayon and they'd let you through. They look at your ID but don't even look at you to see if it's yours.
