Question about after market Heat sink fan

There is something that is really bugging me...

I bought my heat sink for $100. Lets say in two/three years time, I change my CPU to the 'latest' available model. Chances are that the LGA775/AM2 will be obsolete.
Does that mean that I wont be able to use the fan on another board/CPU model??
