question about a sticky situtation

ok, me and a group of my close friends were caught up in an ugly situation where some gangstas wanted to fight us (it was 5 on 3 in our favor but they could have take us in a heartbeat). well, i made it clear to my friends that i wasnt gonna fight cuz there was no point. we would have lost and i couldn't have done anything to help physically. i was able to diffuse the situation verbally cuz the one main guy who wanted to fight really had beff with on particular friend of mine and not me personally. so does this make me a lesser friend since i was not down to fight? did i make the wrong choice?
 
i hope you're joking. you made a perfectly good decision. you didnt ditch 'em, but you defused the situation..
 
No because you all would have gone to jail and had that on your record for the rest of your life depending on your age. Now if he and the rest of your friends were actually fighting physically and you did nothing, that might make you a lesser of a friend, but you chose to not take the easy way out. Good for you.
 
You did not make the wrong choice at all. Good job for using a tactic other than violence to solve the problem. If your friends are pissed at you for talking your way out of the situation instead of getting a beatdown then you have stupid friends.
 
i thought i did the right thing and they weren't pissed or anything but another guy got some "i'm proud of you standing up to them" comments and i got a "dude, personX is the same size as you and he was down to fight"
 
yeah, i was gettin kinda nervous but it was at a park so i didnt think they would shoot or anything. still, wouldnt want to fight people with guns

i hate when people pull guns. iv had them to my chest a couple of times. not fun. only once tho i really thought they would use it.

partly, the two friends who the gangsta had beef with started talking in Russian about the situation and the gangstas thought that they were talking trash about them and they come up and say something like "no white boy is gonna talk $hit about me behind my back " or something to that extent. this was after a **KINDA** hard foul by my friend while playing basketball. yeah, i agree with you jonny, nothing good comes out of those situations
 
You did the right thing, otherwise you and your friends would probably be in the hospital or wearing toe tags at the moment. Stupid macho crap is not worth getting the sh!t knocked out of you or shot.
 
Ahh it started with Basketball, no wonder. I talk so much $hit when I play bball on the street. You weren't playing 5v3 bball were you?
