I have a question about the video card in a laptop and was wondering if someone has heard of this before..

I just signed up for a PC class and one of the perks is they give you a lap top and at the end of the course you can buy it for only $300. It's a brand new unit but I have no idea if the video card is worth a crap. I only have a list of the hardware but the video card wasn't listed so the teacher looked up in the hardware device manager (he has his laptop ,we don't get ours till this Sat.) and under display it listed this for graphics.....sis 630/730 What is that? Any one every heard of that....

The rest ofthe hardware is this.. It's a PIII 1ghz ,128mg PC133 ,20gig HDD,24X CD rom,14.1 TFT screen,56K,10/100 NIC.

on the front of the unit the name was Maxbook so I take it that's the brand. I know squat about laptops but I figured even if the class sucks for $300 bucks it's a great deal. Or is it?

I was hoping I could run unreal or HL while flying to Phoenix over Christmas. I figure I should at least be able to do that... I hope.

It's a 630, the 730 is for AMD processors.

It is an integrated part of the chipset. Have no idea where you might find benchmarks. It is AGP4X, probably shares system memory.

I'm sure you will have no problems playing HL or Q3, considering my old P2 400 with an 8Meg i740 card can do that.

You probably won't want to have all the detail turned up, but I'm guessing med. details at 800x600 will be doable.

My wife asked the same question. She thought there might be someone who didn't want theirs afterthe class and I could just buy theirs as well....

the max res that the teacher had his at was 1024X768X16 ,so 800x600 would be fine I guess.

jfunk, do have any idea on if it's upgradeable? I would probably need to tear it open and see huh?

pretty sure u can't upgrade the card.

however, it looks like your laptop will be able to run games just fine.

what class is this, btw?
