Question about a card I was looking at.

Right now I have a Geforce 6600GT 128mb AGP 8x card with an Athlon 64 3000. I don't want to spend much more money than that, and I don't want to redo my whole system with a PCI-Express setup (not money), however I do want a new card that will fit right in my system without any modifications that will give me a very noticable and good jump in performance to eak out maybe another year worth of gaming.

I'd say pick up a X1950 Pro AGP, Difference should be well noticed.. The 7600GS will give you extre perfromance but I think dollar per dollar, the X1950Pro is an amazing bang for the buck.

The difference between a 6600GT AGP and the 7600GS AGP isn't exactly staggering...

I wouldn't bother upgrading from a 6600GT to a 7600GS because the performance of the two is very close... in order to get a significant bump in framerates you would need to jump to a 6800GT or a 7600GT AGP... an X800/X850XT would also be a lot faster.

6600GT -> 1950 PRO = night and day

6600GT -> 7600 GS = Maybe worth 50$, but never 130$

Hmm, actually I"m thinking about redoing my whole computer w/ a new mobo that supports pci-express. I'm looking at the 7800GT as a good card. Everywhere I'm reading says it's better than the 6800GT, and it looks like you can get a 7800GT PCI-EXPRES for 150 bucks.

7800GT is a lot faster than a 6800GT card, but you're still going to be hurting for performance in modern games.

But if you're going to go PCI-E the 7800GT is the best card in your price range if you can find it for $150.

Are you sure? My friend plays Oblivion on decent settings with his 6800GT.

7800GT's are no longer being produced, you should be able to grab a 7900GS which is essentially the same card (if not better) for that price
