Question about 7.1

I have an Audigy 2 ZS, Creative I-Trigue 3300 (2.1) and a Logitech X-530 (5.1). I was thinking i could hook up the i-trugue's as the front and use the x-530 for surround.

The audigy supports 7.1 and has 3 outputs for the speakers. The problem is the x-530 has 3 inputs and not 2 as i expected. Is the last output just for a subwoofer?

What would be the best setup in this case? The only thing i can think of is getting a splitter for the front outputs.

7.1 is just 6.1 with one of the rear channels mirrored.

So in your case, it wouldn't work out, because one system would be 4.0/1 at most and the other 2.0/1.

If you do get a splitter, it would make the most sense for a splitter for the rear inputs. In that case you'd have like 5.5.1 instead of 6.1(7.1).
 
I guess splitting the rear outputs is the best i can do then.

Is the last output on the Audigy just for the subwoofer? I was wondering why regular 2.1 systems dont have an option to use it.




 
The three connections for the x-530s are
Front L / Front R
Surround L / Surround R
Sub / Center

I don't have an Audigy 2 but both the 7.1 cards I've had have four jacks for outputting 7.1 via analog.

Does the zs require one of those quad pole jacks to do 7.1?

Anyway... you can do what Astrallite suggested and get a splitter for the surround output.

The reason a 2.1 system only has a stereo jack is the speakers use their own internal crossover to decide what frequencies go to the sub and which go to the satellite speakers.

Both subs should work if you plug the 3300s into the front output jack, the center/sub of the x-530s into the center/sub output on the A2, and plug in the other two x-530 inputs into the split surround output from your A2.

I'm not sure where you can get the special 7.1 adapter cables for the zs, but an e-mail to creative would hopefully let you know.

I think the real adapter should give you full signal strength output rather than the split 7.1 with our splitter method.
 
Just connected the speakers. They work great!

I tried playing FEAR to test EAX. The in-game sounds are perfect, but there is no audio for the intro video or the menu. Tested it in Doom 3, Colin Mcrae. Same thing. No audio for intro videos or game menus. Its fine after the game starts.

Is there some setting i'm missing?

Maybe the intro movies are playing off the disc?

Do CDs work? DVD movies?

Maybe you were using an analog connection before from the drive to your soundcard and the digital sound signal wasn't enabled?

(I've never messed around with that so I'm not sure if that would cause your problems)
 
Figured it out!

For some reason its a problem with the graphic equalizer. If that's disabled, it works fine in the game intro and menu.
