I got a 2005FPW with an nvida 6200 on dvi with the 81.95 drivers. when i switch the monitor to portrait mode shouldn't the desktop rotate automaticlly or do i have to rotate it manually everytime? i downloaded the monitor's driver from windows update.

thanks

You have to rotate the desktop manually - I don't think there's any way for the monitor to "sense" that you have physically rotated it (any sensors built in, etc).

Technically, on DVI, the monitor could trigger a hot unplug, and then re-plug and report portrait geometry to the machine.

However, neither this monitor nor the common graphics cards would handle anything of that, so yes, you have to switch that manually. This is the one thing for which assigning a hotkey is a REALLY good idea.

I use hotkeys for this, and for switching languages from spanish to english.
Multilanguage needs a hotkey (esp when instant messenging ect) and clearly i have to use english on this forum.

Other than these two things, I'm not too big on hotkeys.
I dont really care for the automatic rotation sensor either in LCDs.. unless they put it in with the HDMI standard (which I dont think they did). But its not that big of a deal to hit a key combo.

DVI already does hotplug, and communicates the panel's native resolution via PnP, no need for anything extra actually - other than both ends using these features in case of a rotation.
