Question about 19" LCDs

I'm looking for one for work (so color fidelity is important and response time is not), and I'm basically getting the idea that, for the price, the Dell 1907FP can't be beat. Is that the case? I looked at Tom's 19" "Spring Roundup," and they suggest the Samsung 970B. But I don't see how you can justify that when the 1907FP is nearly 1/2 the price.

Am I wrong? I'm not really nitpicking, I just want a 19" LCD that will reproduce colors pretty well, and definitely on the cheap.
 
Last time i checked the Dell 1907FP uses a TN panel which is the farthest from what you want to be using for color reproduction. I believe the Samsung uses a PVA panel which you also may want to avoid.

For true color reproduction make sure to look at S-IPS panels.

Thanks for your help, but I should be more specific. I work with Powerpoint and Excel all day, not Photoshop. I guess I should say that in order for me to pay more than the <$250 that the Dell costs, it would have to be a significantly better monitor. I just thought that I would be able to find a cheaper 19" monitor with color reproduction as good as the Dell given that I have no need for low response times. Is that not the case?
 
IMO the ViewSonic VP930b is the best deal at $320. Higher contrast than the Dell. The LCD1970NX at $380 would have better viewing angles and possibly higher color saturation at a lower brightness (easier on the eyes). I'm sure the latter NECs (LCD1990xxx) are better but I don't see the logic in spending that much on a 19" screen for Powerpoint/Excel.

It's between the VP930b and 1970NX. Actually I think the 1970NX has a true 8-bit panel whereas the VP930b dithers. I can only confirm that the VP930b dithers, not that the 1970NX is 8-bit though.

So in your opinion, the VP930b is 20% better than the Dell 1907FP?
 
Going off panel types...

1907FP - 100%
VP930b - 130%
1970NX - 150%

But I have only personally used the VP930b.
 
Also see if you can find a 1905FP still for sale. I have one of those, and it's color reproduction is great with its 8-bit Panel as opposed to the 1907FP's 6-bit panel.
 
The 1905 actually uses dithering to achieve 8-bit. Sometimes 2x2 (Samsung) and other times FRC (AUO). But, yes, if you can find the 1905 that's what I'd get. It's the best value if you're willing to look for one. It is high contrast like the VP930b.

Yeah, that would be great. The problem is that I will only use Ebay if I'm desperate, and that's the only place I'd find that.
 
With the VP930b only $10 less then a 20.1in Widescreen I really wouldn't consider it. Any 19in screen should be >$300 IMO.
