Just something Ive noticed
Recently got this card, and overall very impressed, but Ive noticed that the USB driver that is installed for the breakout box's ports is listed as a "Generic USB hub". Is this the same for everyone else?
Just that Ive just bought a USB modem to get rid of internal IRQ problems, and I couldnt get it to install on any of the ports.
Ive checked the power ratings for these ports and it reckons it can supply the full 500mA.
Anyway, have I mucked up the install of the drivers?!!!
Cheers
Andy

A similar question to yours...what chipset does the GTXP use for the USB controller? Intel? VIA?

The Hercules USB functions as a self powered hub and supplies 500ma to the ports. Are you using other USB devices? Do you have the Hercules USB cable attached to the primary USB port on your motherboard? What OS are you running? USB modems are famous for just about taking all of the bandwidth available which would leave a conflict if you are using other USB devices. IF you are running W2K, go to the Hardware Device manager, click on the MB USB controller, go to advanced, it will show you the resources taken by devices attached to that port. I would suggest that you do not run the Modem off the Hercules but have it attached to your mb port.

Ive just used a program called usbview, its on the win98se cd
It tells you info about all your usb ports, and apparantly the GTXP uses a Texas Instruments chip.Dunno if they just manufacture the chip or actually designed it tho.
As for my usb modem problems, I put my extra usb header in and tried running it off that, but the modem still dies randomly.
Ive done a bit of research into this and its amazing how many problems windows has with usb! Also loads of bios configuration problems to rule out, so I'm heading down the elimination route methinks!
To answer your questions bingo, Im using win98se, dunno whether the GTXP is in primary or secondary usb, will check. Shouldnt matter tho as Im using a main usb port for the modem. I dont have many other usb devices, but the ones I do have, soundcard, hub for monitor, mouse, would probably chew up a fair bit of bandwidth.
Anyway, this problem has migrated to the technical help section now!
Thanks for replying
