Quentin Tarantino - artistic genius or no talent ass clown?

Curious as to the general consensus on Quentin Tarantino. The Man. The Legend. The Talentless Hack who Hollywood Continues to Allow Making Movies.

Watched The Hateful Eight tonight. Umm, great movie, I guess, if I was 9 years old or if I touched myself at night (ok so I touch myself at night, but the movie still sucked). I thought Pulp Fiction was terrible. This was worse. Kill Bill was pretty bad as well. I don't know what else makes up his 8 movies but I'm going to assume they were all equally awful.

Does anyone actually like his movies? And is that something you would admit to yourself while staring at yourself in the mirror?

he's pretty much the only one doing original movies at this point.

the rest of it is mostly sequels pre-quels and re-boots.

If you don't like his movies, then don't watch them, and don't complain about them. I don't watch Transformer movies, and I don't complain about them either.

Pulp Fiction was a master piece.

He has a knack for a certain style, with a penchant for film making.

As he has progressed, his craft has become that much better. But you also have to realize to what he is applying his craft: pulp fiction is more than one of his movies, it's the stylistic choice of the majority of his films, and all of them have a very carefully crafted style that may or may not be to your liking. That said, for the themes/styles, his movies are at the top of their game in this day and age. You can't go into his movies expecting the general style of Hollywood - they will be different, and that difference is glorious.

I can enjoy many styles of movies, but in the way his are crafted, I think he is basically a master. Not that his movies, on the grand scheme of things, are the absolute best in Hollywood... no, I would never argue that. But his brand is very much his brand, and it's take it or leave it, quite honestly. His movies are simply excuses for murder and mayhem, with a story in their somewhere, but that is not to say the stories are bad. Thematically, they fit wonderfully, but they are obviously not winning awards.

I've seen every movie of his except for The Hateful Eight, and dammit, I've been hoping to get a group of buddies together to go up to the Detroit region to catch one of the 70mm shows, but I am mostly the only film buff in my circle. We all tend to like the same movies, but I appreciate the talent and the art, whereas most I know just enjoy the spectacle and that's it.

If you don't like the Op's opinion, then don't read his threads and don't complain about them.

True. You and the OP are both right.

His movies are generally very simplistic with very simple lines, but there is something about the movie making that others just don't seem to be able to create. They are interesting movies anyway.

He asked our opinion about Tarantino, didn't he ?
And I'm not complaining anywhere.
All I did was give a tip: if you don't like something, don't take in more of it.

Thought he's gotten worse as time has passed. Jackie Brown and on were mediocre or bad. They're really so weird it's hard to tell if they are good or bad. Couldn't finish Django. Just too corny.

Inglorious Bastards. Meh.

Kill Bill 1 was solid, but 2 was meh.

OTOH True Romance, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are all great films. When he roots his style in "normal" styles of story telling and character development the films are more cohesive and easily digested. Ever since after Jackie Brown it's like the characters are all caricatures in super zany stories! Will watch "H8ful Eight". Retarded titles since Inglorious as well. hmmmmmm

If you don't like the opinion of the guy who doesn't like the OPs opinion, then don't read his post and don't complain if the plane takes off from the fictitious treadmill runway that will never happen.

AFI list Pulp Fiction as one of the hundred greatest movies of all time.

You, on the other hand, sound like the type of guy that enjoyed the Twilight series.

Are his movies original at this point? He's just doing reboots and retreads of other Tarantino movies. He's got one style and will keep going to that well until it runs dry. I'm in the middle on Tarantino, he's not the genius that people who worship his narrow range make him out to be, but his movies are entertaining. Anybody who can make decent movies that are not based on Harry Potter, comic book superheroes or teen angst-y vampires should be given plenty of encouragement to keep doing it.

one bad movie is enough for me to stop seeing that directors subsequent movies. why go see more?

shit, go see jackie brown if you want to watch a straight adaptation of someone elses writing

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are damn good movies. Inglorious Basterds is also a good movie. I'll see this sometime in the next month or so.
