Quantum Fireball Plus LM: Just how loud is it supposed to be?

I've searched the forums and found a couple of references to the Quantum Fireball Plus LM being a loud drive. Exactly how loud is it supposed to be?

I had a Fireball EX which wasn't too bad, and just yesterday popped in a new Plus LM 15 GB. That sucker is so loud, I first thought I had a physical disk crash in the works. But, it does seem to work, I copied my old drive to my new one using DriveImage and away I went. Anybody else have this drive and have any thoughts on the noise?

Mine doesn't seem loud at all. My 120mm fan pretty much drowns out the sound of everything tho :)

but even w/ it off, I don't find it all that loud. Yes, louder than the IBM 34GXP i have.. but, the plexiglass seems to dampen out the sound pretty well.

oh, and i have the 30GB version

I have had quite a few Quantum HD's, mine were EXTREMELY loud! I realized just how loud when I tried Maxtor (you barely know they are working).

Mine sounded like they wanted to bust out of the damn case.

I just bought a Quantum LM 30GB and it is significantly quieter than the LM I had at work a month ago. I may have a newer revision but I was surprised. It is very quiet - I thought it would have been louder.

It's quieter than some of the other Quantum drives that I have had....my last one was a CR and my LM is quieter than that, but even then, I can still just hear it over my fans, and my system sounds like an aircraft taking off.

Well My 18GB 10,000 RPM SCSI drive is loud... but I can still barely hear my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 over my 8 total fans.

I have this drive and it doesn't seem that loud consider that I've also own the IBM GXP100. It only does it when seeking but still qiueter than some of the older drives.
