This might not the best HDD out there but it seems like a good deal (to me 🙂 )

At [L]http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?loc=101&sku=10243355&PageFormat=3[/L] and use the $30 MIR there + another $30 off from you know were. I could only get 1 of the $30 off's to work. But used it 2ice.

Maybe the IBM's ATA/100 (specially the 30 gigger for $130) might be a better deal but "me no have ATA/100 mobo "today".

I own this drive, and it rocks. Absolutely the cheapest 30 gig 7200 rpm available right now. And this is one of the highest rated 30 giggers.

I also own this drive... Picked it up from Buy a month ago... Not too bad, but it's a little bit louder than my WD 8gig. When it spins up you can hear it... And sometimes it makes the crackling noises when saving things on the disk....no problems, but it's a little noisier than I'd like......But you certainly can't pass it up if you have the means...😉

Quantum rebate can be found here.

And btw...this is a repost of an old deal...

I own it too and I don't have any complaints...it only makes strange noise when my Win2k shuts down...dunno why...like it repeats 4 times this crackling noise...

This is the noisiest "modern" (last year or so) drive I
have used, and I've used Maxtor, Seagate, IBM and Western
Digital IDE drives. Noisiest by far...If you can
stand that, it performs well. At $100, it's a good
deal (if you can stand the noise; did I mention it's
noisy?)

Yeah this drive is noisy, but my front fan is noisier. I've owned both the IBM GXP75 and this drive and I haven't regret it for $100.

I think that buy.com is on ebates for an extra 3%...
ebates also has a $15 off $100 buy.com coupon if you've used all the others already.

You won't go wrong with this drive.

Go to www.storagereview.com then click on reviews , then select the Quantum.

Here's their quote:

<< The bottom line? Though the term is certainly an overused cliché, the Fireball Plus LM's "SCSI-like" performance allows it to topple the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 to claim the coveted 7200rpm SR Leaderboard slot. As long as you can live with 30 gigs of capacity or less in a single drive, the LM is the ATA drive to get! >>

Wbitemouse you won't be sorry with this baby. It's not as noisy as some people make it out to be.

So, what 7200 rpm drive isn't noisy? My (2) new IBM's sound like a stack of quarters being fanned in a tin can. It's just the price for speed.

For what it's worth, this drive isn't nearly as noisy as the IBM that came with my Gateway.

Really, noise in hard drives is a very relative thing. If you have the actual box sitting on your desktop, say under the monitor, you're going to notice it a lot more than if you have a tower sitting on the floor.

It's not like you're going to have to shout over it....
