I love shopping at outpost, they always come through. Plus free tax and shipping. Ship time for this drive is 1-2 weeks but outpost is great so no worries. This isn't the fastest drive around (IBM flat out kicks ass) but I like Quantum. Besides, they're really good about rebates.

Here's the drive: $159.95
Here's the MIR: $35.00

Total is $124.95. Not too bad for a 40GB 7200RPM ATA100.

This is a good deal if I wasn't able to get it for $149 at fry's and got the rebate also about two weeks ago. But it's still a decent deal for this drive. From what my co-worker tells me fry's is now sold out

I wonder if Quantum is historically good with rebates. I'm still waiting for mine from a September purchase; they've sent two status emails in all that time to ask me to be patient and wait for them to process the pile of rebates they have.

Obviously they are stalling for cash-flow purposes.

Could also possibly be because Maxtor bought them out.

Me thinks this would be slightly cheaper than Fry's (outpost no tax, Fry's has tax).

Gang,

Quantum currently is the top firm on my deliquent rebates Excel spreadsheet. My purchase was made on October 15th and the rebate wentin the next day. Today I received e-mail that says'...

"We have received your rebate materials and are currently processing them.

"Due to overwhelming response to this program we are experiencing a slight delay in the fulfillment of your rebate. You can expect to
receive your rebate in approximately 2-4 weeks.

"If you have not received it by then please call

1-800-624-5545."

My best advice, having been bitten by these rascals, is buy from someone else.

If others are having better experience, please speak up.

Tisk tisk, looks like Maxtor is tarnishing Quantum's good name. I bought over 5 drives from Quantum before Maxtor bought them out. Got my rebates on every single one in 4 weeks or less.

Did anyone else notice that the rebate form allows you to get rebates on up to 5 drives in each capacity?

I have to agree about Quantums rebate offer - stinks. Still have 2 pending. First one was mailed out on 9-9-00. Many weeks later I received a postcard saying another 6-8 weeks. Since I just love rebates (yeah), I purchased a second Quantum (Fireball AS), meaning another rebate offer. This was mailed out on 12-21-00. They said a check was being generated for the 2nd offer I mailed in ($35 instead of $40?) and I should receive that one ~early Feb. She gave some BS answer as to why the first one is still being delayed. Then I received the same email others are getting about another 2-4 week wait. Pretty sad when one has to wait this long.

Not so sure if it's Maxtor that's the culprit VirtualMike. Usually these companies outsource their rebates to an independent company. I'm still waiting on a rebate from October and I think this might have been just before the merger if I'm not mistaken. Though I could be wrong. But anyways, for free shipping, that's entirely not a bad deal at all.
