Quantum Conundrum - new 1st person puzzle game

I saw a little walkthrough and it doesnt look bad, but that E3 trailer makes me think its too silly, like its a kids game.
 
It's hard to top a game like Portal within this genera.

That's why it's nice to see many of the devs of portal worked on this. It'll have a similar feel but the mechanics are different enough to keep the two separate. Since we won't see another portal for a while, if ever, this type of stuff will be a nice alternative.
 
Released yesterday. Puzzles are nice but have been a little easy so far. Dialog isn't nearly as entertaining as portal, but it's not bad. Hopefully it gets a little harder.

Ehh, I'm enjoying this much less than I had anticipated.

Having to dig through and find which of 2 or 3 duplicated ini files I need to add a manual resolution since the developer put an arbitrary 1920x1200 limit on resolution, then having to make a keybind just to have to hit it each time in order to get a non-nauseating FOV (hello, I'm not playing this on a TV screen 10 feet away, what's with the 65 or so FOV???), started it off with a bad taste.
 
Interesting video - reminds me of another multi-platform game that allowed you to switch up the environments from the living world to the dead world... but can't recall the name of the game.

EDITED - the game was Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver where you would switch between living and dead to figure out puzzles.

Is it fun?

So far yes. If you like Portal style of game play [figuring out puzzles, lots of jumping, avoiding lasers, etc] - then you should like this game.

The first "area" [blue] is relatively easy to figure out and takes maybe an hour or so.

The 2nd area [yellow] adds another twist to the puzzles and requires a bit more thought. I'm currently stuck on trying to figure out how to get a sofa past some lasers.

In between the "puzzle areas" - there are long stretches of hallways which from my perspective is lazy design.

Yeah, the hallways serve like the elevators in Portal... Just to bridge the gap between rooms. They copy and paste just a few designs though so it looks especially lazy.
 
Got through the 2nd part (the yellow wing). More challenging than the first, though a good part of that was due to platforming and not really figuring out the puzzle. Still fun.

I think they knew they were repeating hallways and tried to be cute about it. At some point the prof said "haven't you been in this hallway before? After a while I guess they all look the same to me". No kidding? Me too!

There's collectibles to watch out for throughout the game, and it also keeps track of how many times you shifted dimensions, the time it took you, if you died, etc... so there's other goals to increase replayability if you're one to 100% everything. It looks like it'll be about as long as the first Portal, maybe a bit more with the extra stuff you can go back and collect.

They released a patch today that gives FOV adjustment in game up to 120. Default looks to be 85. Not sure if it added higher res support too or not.
 
Well... I finished it. Steam says 5 hours played, but I don't know how close I got to 6. Definitely a short game, and it won't take much more to go back and get the few things I missed if I wanted. There's 2 DLC incoming, so I'd say wait for those to release and see if the pack that includes future DLC goes on a decent enough sale. It's a good game with decent puzzles and a great concept, but a bit easy and not nearly as entertaining as portal.
 
It took me about 8 hours to finish. I kept dying over and over a few times [typical die until you learn how to do something].

One thing I accidentally did stumble upon is the dialogue at the paintings. You'll hear one line of dialogue if you're just walking by, but if you stop at the painting - you get about 3 lines of dialogue.

I had to cheat once [via youtbue] - my brain just couldn't figure out how to make the leap across 2 tables [slow down time]. Oddly enough even though I didn't make it to the platform with the power up - the game auto saved to allow me to continue on.

Typical length game for $15.
