You all know about Buy's new $30 coupon, get yourself a couple of These babies, combine it with the free shipping plus the $30 rebate you get from Quantum (ends 12/31) and you're all set! :)

If you've got a RAID controller or bought one from the recent ComputerGeeks deal that makes it so much sweeter.

:)

<edit>
My bad, i forgot about the $150 minimum purchase so here's how i figure it:

(2) Quantum Drives - $275.90
(1) $30 Coupon - $ 30.00
Total Shipped - $245.90

After (2) $30 rebates from Quantum = $245.90 - 60 = 185.90/2 = $92.95 each unit

If for some reason you don't want to go the $150 route, there is also a $10 off $100 coupon expiring today. So that's $137 - $10 - $30 rebate = $97 shipped.

Oh god, here we go again.

Every time this thread gets going (and it has now about 6 times by my count), there's a huge debate about how loud the drive is and whether or not it's better than the IBM DeskStar.

There's also a $15-from-$100 coupon for all customers that expires on 12/12 that can be used if you buy just one drive. Remember, loudness is in the ear of the beholder ! :)

srxtreme:

Check out some of the other deal sites out there, if you look around these forums, some of the people who post here are people who run these sites, and they link to them in their taglines. There you can find the coupons, however, they are not allowed on anandtech forums, that's why you won't find them here.

by the way, this drive is the fastest available of the IDE flavor, next to the IBM Deskstar drives, and at a lot lower price. Value wise, this is the drive to own.

I have to chime in and remind posters that _after rebate_ and "shipped" are not the same thing. Rebates take time, and some of them _never_ are paid out. Also, I received an email from Quantum a few days ago.. basically they said there is a huge backlog of rebates due to overwhelming demand for this promotion, so it'll take a bit longer for us to receive our money. I did this deal a couple months ago, so we'll see what happens. Since I got the drive for a friend, I can't comment on its quality at all.

In conclusion, this drive is NOT $92 "shipped".

I've been running this drive for a couple months now and have not noticed *ANY* loudness problems - in fact, I can't hear it at all when it's spinning, and can just barely hear it when it's accessing. Oh yeah, and I leave the case open.

Seems to just be a quality control issue.

Anyway, $137.95 - $30 MIR - $30 coupon = $77.95 shipped for the drive. Just buy something for $13 to bring the pre-coupon total to $150 ;) There's always something (a DVD or something) that you'd pay full price for anyway...

Manly: I agree with you... lots of times thread titles say something is $XXX shipped, but that's AFTER a Staples price match, three mail-in rebates, e-bates cash back, and the alignment of Jupiter with Mercury.

lol MontyBurns! I like how u said the planets lining up, cuz that is so true, the rebates always take forever!!!! esp from staples, they suck, just recently i sent them a rebate with the ORIGINAL upc and receipt and get this invalid receipt thing back sayin it wasn't the original, so i was like wtf, but i scanned and made copies ne wayz, so it'll go thru, it's juss a major pain in the a$$ to deal wit rebates

I just got back my $30 rebate on Saturday, took 13 weeks and change. The $15 one for the 20 gig only took 5 weeks. I just picked up another 30 gig one and sent the rebate out.

I am very happy with the drive(s).

Yeah, for the record, my rebate only took about 8 weeks, which isn't bad in rebate time.

I just got off the phone with Quantum about a couple of lct15 rebates I mailed three months ago. They didn't know anything about this rebate. The irony is my rebate I sent in three weeks ago for the LM Plus 30 GB is already in their database. Needless to say I am pissed about this. Quantum promised to investigate the whereabouts of my first $30 rebate (2 X $15.)

And oh yeah, I think the Quantum Plus LM 30GB is relatively quiet. If you have a lousy case with a cheap drive cage, the LM Plus might transfer more vibration to the case than other drives. This would translate into more noise. If you have a solid case, like me, this drive is fairly quiet, nothing like Quantum drives from three years ago.

I used to have a bigfoot. =P now THOSE were HORRIBLE drives.

Then I got a hand-me-down crappy ata/33 drive. Then I bought the Quantum Atlas 10K II. This drive is damn speedy. Second only to the Seagate X15 in overall performance, and the seek time is godly.

Ordered Quantum 30Gb yesterday at Buy.com, recieved it today. Running the LM 20Gb right now. A little noisy compare to my IMB. Still a bargain.
