Looking for decent Japanese restaurants around Mountain View or Sunnyvale. Does anyone have some recommendations? I am specifically wanting to chow down on some tasty gyoza or ramen.

Miyake is only good for getting wasted on a Friday night and picking up drunk Santa Clara and Stanford girls. Ryowa Ramen is really good in Mountain View.

Decent Japanese:

Fuki Sushi in PA (overpriced tho for above average quality)
Michi in Campbell
Yakkos in Mt View

Great Japanese for $$$$$
Sawa sushi in SV

It looks like Ryowa Ramen is quite popular among the ATOT crew.

Thanks! :)

I actually live in Alameda, so I know the Sushi House quite well. :)

I have a friend coming into the area on a quick business trip, but don't want him to drive all the way to Alameda for food. I decided that somewhere around Mountain View would be a good middle point for us.

Sushi House
Similar places near sunnyvale/santa clara: Sushi o Sushi and Cherry Sushi
Kitsho in cupertino also... not for the sushi so much.

Gombei in San Jose or Menlo Park. Be prepared to wait in a line that goes out the door if you go there at the "wrong" time (SJ location at least)

It looks like Ryowa it is then! I just checked MapQuest and it says it's 10.4 miles from my hotel. See you tomorrow...

Try Japantown in San Jose. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Try Gombei (no sushi), Minato.

I haven't been there in years...but when I was living at home, I used to go to Hamasushi in Cupertino. Lots of people agreed that the restaurant served great sushi...but I guess it closed down.

Ryowa for ramen
Sushi O Sushi for sashimi and sushi
There's one in Sunnyvale downtown I think it's Andoh. Everything I tried there has been great, and you know it when it's filled with Japanese. it's quite expensive though.
Shiki is ok too, especially their beef tataki.
If you want Kobe beef Yoshida is the place to go
