I have had a problem getting consistent quality out of my dvd media for both the pc burner and my video recorder.

I have had great luck with these dics:
http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/dvmeddvdplus.html

The are also compatible with the brand new Sony DRU-500 dvd pc burner (which does +R AND -R for the few who don't know that yet)AND the Philips 985 video recorder and other philips dvd burners bla bla bla...

Finding all this in one disc that works as advertised isn't that easy. If you purchase some from this site, be careful, they have some discs that .09 cents cheaper but not nearly as good from the specs:

In the 50 they are $2.08 a disc, and the have 50 and up packs available. It cost around 5.50$ for shipping.

After buring so many coasters in name brand and generics both they were a very nice find.

High-quality, high-performance DVD+Recordable(Plus) disc Single-sided(4.7GB)
Backwards compatible with existing DVD-ROM and DVD-Video players
One disc format for both video and data use
Uses a bare disc ?no cartridge required
650 nm laser(numerical aperture 0.65)
Constant linear data density
CLV and CAV recording
Write speeds from 1X to 2.4X DVD-Video data rates
"Lossless linking" anti-buffer underrun technology

Philips DVDRW228

Philips DVDR1000/1500 Video Recorder (w/upgrade)

tranceport, mind telling us what brand & from where? I'm in the market for DVD-R/RW and if you only had 1 coaster, i'd say that's a hot deal.

tranceport:

You forgot to tell us quite alot.

First and most important : What kind of dvd's? dvd-r's, dvd+r's?, or possibly dvd-rw's?, or dvd+rw's?

What brand, specs and where you purchase them from??? And are they just data grade? video recorder grade? 2.4x? what??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point of the Sony Drive. It Burns ALL formats. The fact that it burns to this media isn't special is it? My understanding was that the Sony Drive burned to ALL DVD+R discs.

I had 4 out of 10 memorex dvd+r be bad in my ricoh. I would burn the image fine with a rw but would be bad on the +r so it was the media for sure. Switched to Verbatums and never had a prob with them.

I keep hearing this about the memorex discs on here, I would avoid them like the plague. Verbatim can be found for the same or close in price if you search.

No they do, I just got some for between 2-3$ a disc during a dell sale. But you can search the web for them too. It takes time, try pricewatch.

Maybe this should be in a new thread, but Best Buy has the Verbatim +R five packs with case this week for 9.99 after rebates:

Try to avoid Memorex, they make bad media.

Go with Ritek if you want it cheap, Ritek recently has surfaced on the media market as one of the best unbranded media. I've burned so far 50 of those (from a 100 spindle) without any bad DVD (the expected value of bad DVD in a 100 spindle of Ritek is about 2, but so far everything has been good)

A good place for Ritek and other DVD media is Rima.com; extremely good customer service. Some people will go with Meritline.com; The prices are pretty much the same comparing to Rima (Meritline is a little bit more expensive, but they offer free Ground shipping). I would go with Rima since the service is better.

Is it just me, but I'm not seeing free ground shipping at Meritline?
