the flashlight / work light is a good idea, or a Home Depot gift card. If he's into cars and bikes, guaranteed he can find something he needs/wants at Home Depot. And he probably goes there anyway, so it's not like he has to go out of his way. And he can put it towards a more expensive purchase too. An auto parts store gift card would be the same idea.

How about some trashy DVD? I love giving those, despite always having a bit of a guilty feeling about it. Because maybe there's someone out there, that doesn't like trash movies. But then I realize how impossible that is, and just go ahead.
