I may cancel my lenovo order, there is nothing really there that really warrants me getting this over strix point for example.

Laptop reviewer Andrew Marc David has scheduled a livestream for unboxing and testing Snapdragon X laptops.

Livestream begins in 11 hours.

PS: The other Youtuber JustJosh's livestream will start in ~6 hours.

pick up one from Best buy. Some new reviews are popping up and its good

Edit: maybe hold off lol. The reviews came I it and it’s shakey

Picked up an Omnibook X from BB. We will see how it goes (won't get to play with it until tonight).

Bummed out about the 16gb of RAM vs. 32GB, but eh, I don't see 32GB models available anywhere, and its either this or MTL...

One of the few sites I've seen with a repeatable battery life test and well-developed results database:

1718718935061.png

While PCMark 10 is old, I've confirmed the Office Battery Life sub-test supports Arm (I assume that means native Arm binaries, and not just Prism, lol).

The PCMark 10 Applications benchmark, and the Office, Video, and Idle scenarios for the Battery Life Profile support Windows 10 on Arm and Windows 11 on Arm.
//

Separately, ASUS ships a heavily-throttled unplugged power profile by default. Windows Central did not use that profile for their testing.

Curiously, by default, the laptop is set to switch to a custom "power efficiency" profile when unplugged from the wall. This is unusual, as most laptops will opt for the "balanced" power profile when unplugged. We ran our battery life test with this balanced power mode, along with how I generally used the laptop.

The power efficiency profile will underclock the CPU down to around 1Ghz, which is fine for light tasks such as web browsing or office work, but you'll want to set it to balanced for most other tasks when away from the wall.

//

On Apple Silicon laptops, users get a prompt the first time they run an x86 app to install Rosetta 2. By always denying that prompt, you can ensure you're only running native apps and avoid accidentally having an x86 emulator running.

I wonder if there is a similar "strict mode" with Prism, so if users wanted, they can ensure zero emulation.

Pretty telling though through all of this that you can really just go to BB and grab or order laptops from 6-7 different OEMs, often multiple designs, and targeted to for ultrabooks. AMD will probably never get there on this lol, the only Stx laptop coming to BB is just one single dGPU-less fat 16 inch Zenbook, everything else is neckbeard Asus dGPU crud.

Yep, with all the delays with Recall I was considering going for STX but it just doesn't look like it is going in the laptops I want. Lunar Lake is coming too late (my Spectre up and died on me) and I am not too interested in MTL. FWIW, everything is now sold out at my local store. From what reviews I have been able to find, it sounds like sleep works properly, which would be a first on a windows machine for me.

I don't know if this was mentioned: Dell XPS can go up to 64GB along with X1E80.

Does anybody other than Lenovo offer these memory upgrades for reasonable prices? And are those models ever actually going to ship?

Is the German word for points really "Punkte"? Wild.
Punkt - singular.
Punkte - plural.
And it is a noun so capitalised.
EDIT:
From the intro:
"Das Ergebnis ist ein überraschend normaler Laptop mit sehr gutem OLED-Panel, auf dem jedoch nicht alle Anwendungen und Spiele laufen."
The result is a surprisingly normal [ordinary] laptop with a very good OLED Panel, where not all programs and games run however.

Will see about resetting the full review later, but doesn't seem that great. At least it's 16GB - the 8GB OLED Vivobooks keep ending up on fire sale on deals sites, I suspect soldered memory presents and inventory challenge due Asus!

Notebookcheck review of Vivobook S 15 is up (in german).

This is not a very good chip, as it stands now, in this laptop.
Browsing is good, responsive and OK battery life, but this is not nearly enough..

It's not terrible, but the loss of Recall does hurt the value-prop this early.

Also, I've heard/read in a few places that sleep works really well - something I've never experienced on a Windows laptop (although the closest was a wintab with the Atom Z2760). It really is idle power/sleep improvements I am interested in (other than the AI).

The several million laptops QC sells by EOY25 will be selected, e.g. not random from genpop of laptop sales. His indie idea isn’t really terrible. Granted, the pricing is hardly bad, and I won’t claim it’s some luxury, but it’s an ~~ entry premium to premium part lineup.

Tbf that’ll be less true with the future low cost part in 2025 but still a bit different.

But who is going to buy these laptops and who is going to avoid them. Gamers are specifically going to avoid them, so you will have a group of people who are non-gamers that you would be trying to sell the games to.

It seems that, with only month left, you would want to see reviews of both before deciding which one to get.

Unfortunately it seems another hype train is coming off the rails. Not bad at all, just too much hype. Maybe Microsoft’s own solution will be better but I’m not counting on it.

Yea that’s right
