There are rumours that Qualcomm is working on MSM8996 and MSM8997
Any clues what these are?

BTE, Snapdragon 810 is MSM8994.

It's obviously the Snapdragon 820, rumored to be Qualcomm's first custom ARMv8 SOC.

2+2 Kryo cores
MSM-> modem integrated
Adreno 530, likely an improved Adreno 430 with more "cores" within the manufacturing and power budget
Samsung 14nm
Etc.
