Ive finally had it with Win9x and have comitted to a single boot Win2K puter with a Geforce1 DDR and 6.18 dets.

Trouble is Quake3 is sooo dark.
I try the following:-

Q. Quake 3 Arena looks very dark in Windows 2000. How can I fix it?
Type the following command at the console:

/r_ignorehwgamma 1
/vid_restart
and see if it helps.

You can also try the following:

/r_ignorehwgamma 0
/r_overbrightbits 0
/vid_restart
This should mean that the brightness slider works as usual.

If that doesn't help, try typing the following commands at the console:

/r_mapoverbrightbits x
/vid_restart
where x is a value from 2 to 3.

I can get it bright with the above but it looks like its bein rendered on a 3dfx Banshee in Default Colour Depth :(

Is nVidia ever gonna sort this?

Is there a way to fix myself?

Help be much appreciated,

rockhard :(

Undo all of those settings listed above. I have a GeForce2 GTS on Win2k and I added this one line for the brightness issue and it looks better than ever:

r_intensity "2.2"

The number in quotes is the intensity of your brighntess. Find out what's good for you and your all set!

thanx G14 :)

I tried it and Quake3 looks pretty good :)
Still cant get it to look as sharp as it did with WinMe :(
Just hope soon this problem will be resolved once and for all.
Its been like this since Win2K came out! Think nVidia would have sorted it by now? Heh, how long do they need?

Ur help much appreciated,

rockhard :D

Go into your config file (q3a.cfg) and find this entry:

seta overBrightBits 0

Change the zero to ".7" or ".8"; the lower you go, the brigher it should get.
