Quake2 rocks!!

Wow, I stopped playing Q2 long ago. I never liked any of version of the quake games. The first was trying to be Doom III and failed, then it tried to be terminator, failed. I don't know how the actual Doom III is, but the last great Id game I played was Doom II.

Meh...The Quake games were okay...mindless game play but okay. I am more into team and goal oriented Online FPS. I was more of CoD 1 + expansions and Tribes 1-2 fan myself. I had a lot more fun in those games then with the Quake series.

mindless? knowing every inch of the map, where the powerups are, the timings of the powerups, where your enemy will spawn after you kill him, etc etc etc is definitely not mindless.

I'm guessing he was referring to the single player 'go find the blue key' game play.

I have to disagree. Quake 1 TEAM FORTRESS > > > > > Action Quake 2 > * 🙂

Oh, and I still love AQ2 way more than CS.

All i have to say is..

internet gaming took a huge leap foward with the introduction of quakeworld. Now, people on 28.8 or 33.6k lines could play against the best of them with very little lag or anything

It really revolutionized gaming. Glad I was in college when it came out because it allowed for many late night gaming sessions in the dorm and on the internet, back in 1994-1995ish or so, whenever it came out.

yeah, I remember playing with a 200-300+ ping and still owning.
Of course, lots of people had those types of pings - I remember in TF with sniper aiming way ahead of people to successfully hit them.
I can't even do that anymore, I don't know how I did it but I remember everyone was able to predict where they were going and kill them almost all the time.
I tried with a laggy connection not too long ago and I couldn't hit squat. I guess my skills have all just disappeared.

Another vote for Tribes, also the original unreal.
Nothing like getting a bunch of heavies loaded up on one of the larger aircraft, those mortars were sick!

Wow - are people still multi-player fraggin in quake 1 and 2? I would've thought they had gone the way of the dodo bird by now. 🙂

QFT. Remember when id hosted the frag/death rankings right after QW came out? That was so fun. ~ 96-97 or so? Great times.

Q2 was fun but it was a lot slower than Q1 which I didn't really like. I loaded it up last year and all the populated servers had idiots running aimbots. Lame.
