i watched the speed video from http://www.archive.org/details/Quake2_Done_Quicker2.

although its pretty cool, i was wondering how the character was able to do some of the jumps that would normally require a bridge, a crate or something.

i can understand the ones with the rocket launcher but sometimes he would just jump across a wide gap.

thanks,
N.

I gonna guess on this one ... cuz I dont want to D/L a 600mb movie ...

He's probably 'straff jumping'.

YOu have to be co-ordinated with keys ... but it's a combo of keys.

IIRC ... you have to double tap the left or right movement keys and jump key.

This gives a very fast long jump.

Don't need to double tap. This is not Unreal (where you do). In Quake you need to strafe and move forward (kind of moving diagnaly), then you jump and turn your head (mouse) in the opposite direction to the strafe. Make sure that the movement of the mouse is even along the jump. Your head should move about 20 degrees. Once landed switch strafe (but continue holding down forward button) and therefore, switch the direction of the mouse movement and jump. The more jumps you do the faster you go. Requires practice. See some Quake 3 movies, you'll like them. I have been playing Q3 for 3 years now.

yeah ... straff jumping ... like he said :D

also ... isn't there some server side settings for gravity and physics ..?
That would allow more distance too...
(like OSP)
