TF2 is shallow. Maybe the most shallow is a Quake like map 2Fort where you have health and ammo parked on the ground all over the place. People just end up dueling across the moat and spamming the other building since health and ammo are everywhere. Ridiculous. But, there is something to be said for tight maps and when you die you don't end up having to haul your a$$ across massive distances only to get sniped again. And I get endless joy from taking my flamethrower and igniting spies left and right.

5) Bad idea

Nope. You jump out before the car hits the tank. You can live. Although being a suicide bomber can be more fun.

You're right, I just said "bit" cause some people like throwing the word "elitist" around. 2Fort has to be the most stalemate-d map on the server I regular on. Most of the the time, it really is just spamming across the moat and the entrances cause it's so hard to get across the spam. I got my highest number of sentry gun kills my building a sentry on the bridge where the snipers can't pop you. Just look at the Steam official stats about "death areas" and you'll see it usually just ends up a slug fest at 1 point or the other on most maps. Well... can't say it's not fun to join the fray though.

Yeah, being a suicide bomber is much more fun, usually because its much more successful (Jumping out of the car some meters before the it hits a tank or something is kind of hard, especially when the car blows up and you die along with it. :) )

I used this tactic so many times on karkand that I was able to exit the vehicle at a perfect time and run behind cover, while the tank got blown up by my car.

Honestly, TF2 seems like the "middle". I haven't played QW, but apparently it's pretty comparable to BF2, where you have huge amounts of players playing several classes on huge maps with multiple capture points/objectives... On the other hand, there are games like CoD4 and Counterstrike where it's straight up pick your weapon and kill the other team. TF2 requires picking the right class for the job, knowing your class's abilities and limitations, using teamwork, and completing objectives.

The answer to all the above problems can be solved by playing competitively in clans. Much more fun. I got bored as hell of pubbing TF2 in about a week b/c I played it casually as a break from Quake/UT. Playing matches makes the game interesting, since you play against all smart people that you can't exploit crap against.

Girlfriend got me Quake Wars for Christmas. She we could exchange it if it wasn't any good so I dl'ed the demo for it and man did it suck. Rocket launcher takes so friggin long to reload I could fire one, go take a crap, come back and it would be just about ready for me to shoot again. I kept getting waxed but the Strogg or whatever the heck they're called waiting for the darn thing to reload. Then they straddle my corpse, molest it and run off looking like me. I used to think the rocket launchers in Battlefield took an interminably long time to reload till I played this. Ended up exchanging it for CoD 4.

Are you sure you haven't overlooked the Unreal Tournament series of games? How about Unreal Tournament III Warfare game type? I've been having lots of fun with that one. There's also Deathmatch, Capture-the-Flag, and Vehicular Capture-the-Flag. Additionally, they'll be custom made game types (like UT99 style DOMination) and eventually lots of user-made, custom maps.
