ET is my favorite FPS of all time.

Even though the screenshots look great, I am more interested in the gameplay. If they can maintain the same great action from the orginal, I should be set for 2 years.

R600 FTW

OGL vs. DX no longer matters much at all. It's not like X850 vs 6800 anymore, ATI has really improved OGL performance with the X1800/X1900 to the point where it doesnt matter much anymore.

Well G80 will likely be out months ahead of the R600 and I really doubt there's going to be much visual/performance difference between the two. Plus I already have an SLI mainboard so it works out great for me ;)

Still, SLI? Especially if G80 comes out before R600, and there's "no competition", you'd be paying $1100-1200 just for a graphics setup there, and you'd probably want to ditch that mobo and get Conroe anyway, unless you want to bottleneck that G80 setup.

I think my X1900XTX will serve me well here, I see no reason to be in a hurry for upgrading. As long as I can play 1280x1024 4x/16x, max, @ 45+ FPS, I'm fine.

I'll never go back to Intel unless AMD becomes totally worthless. My X2 4400+@2.6 works great and should last me at least another year before I need an upgrade. The reason I'm going to opt for an SLI setup with the G80 is because I'm a huge fan of games like BF2 and QW so I want the best experience possible when that game comes out. Native resolution of my monitor is 1680x1050 so dropping down in resolution isn't an option either.

Well, it's your money, but if I was in your boat I'd get a single G80 or at least stick with your X1900 and wait for the ATI competition to arrive. Unless QW:ET is extremely, extremely demanding, even an X1900 should play @ 1680x1050 w/ all the goodies turned on at smooth framerates, and a G80 should mop the floor with it. If the G80 is anything like the G70 launch, anything other than 2048x1536+ will run fine w/o SLI.

As for Intel vs. AMD, if I were in your position I wouldnt upgrade either, but I'd definatly go where the performance is, not just because you like a certain company.

I'm wondering as to what kind of a system or a video card this game would require...I'm definately looking forward to it, from the screenshots it looks as if the Strogg forces are fighting on Earth...

The graphics look to be absolutely amazing. Anything 7800/7900 or X1800/X1900 should be fine, though your 7800GT is probably going to start showing its age when games like this/UT2007 roll around. You'd probably be pretty good @ 1024x768, however.

Yea I thought so, but I only play games at 1440x900 on my widescreen and I'm wondering if it can take it, I've got my system and drivers all tweaked up though...anyways I'll have to see how it goes on 1440x900, currently I can run games like q4 on ultra settings with 2x filtering AA and AF and get about 30-60 fps in multiplayer ctf maps...Mostly 8x AA is about unplayable but 4x AAand 8xAF works just about right... I'm wondering if I need to add another 7800gt with my setup...or ill probably wait

Try selling your 7800GT on the FS/T for $200-210, then buy a 7900GT for around $290. Well worth the price, and if you volt-mod you get GTX performance.

Just what is the target hardware? Am I getting the right impression, in thinking they are indicating this will scale well?

I think they're definately working to make it work on a large range of systems, for sure. But I'm fairly certain for max settings and high resolutions, a very-high end system is going to be required.

Reading between the lines, looks like their approach of tiling & streaming loads of the ginormous textures means there'll be a use for your second core. And those uber-fast perpendicular data hard drives.

There's suppose to be a playable demo at E3 and hopefully a public demo afterwards that'll give everyone an idea of what to expect from their current setup.

I second this though with CF @55-60 fps (aiming for 1920 but not sure it will work out ;)) - I'd never go below this in games like UT or Q.
