quake vs unreal

I don't play enough to be good at either Q3 or UT, but (despite loving Q2 DM and CTF) I find UT much more fun than Q3.

But to guess at an answer your question, UT is more popular (see Gamespy) and has more hardcore players so perhaps you're more likely to run into expert players with UT. Or perhaps the Q3 design is just a better fit for your playing style. Not everyone can master the bouncing ripper blade 🙂

Unreal and Quake have completly differnent feels because they are different game engines. I have been playing games based on the quake engine since I was 10. I am a much better quake player than unreal player.

Amen to that !!!!

There's Quake .. then there's ... nothing else 😀

UT BABY!!! Even got a seperate box running a dedicated server on my local lan and going out through the cable modem...

UT doesn't feel right. Maybe it's the physics, but i don't feel like i'm running around, at least not the way that Q3 renders movement.

No LAN party is complete without a game o' Quake 2, but I hate Q3... i think it's because there's such a difference in the way the game flows between the two. Q2 seems much more like a stalking game (depending on mod of course...😀) whereas Q3 is just a frag pipe. UT is nice because it sits in the middle, but there's too many damned weapons... pretty much my only complaint with UT.

I agree ! Q3 after awhile it's almost like you can "feel" yourself moving if you know what I mean

quake 2 is definitely better than quake 3...i liked how EVERY MAP in quake 2 turned out to be a decent multiplayer map...i loved it cuz the levels were big...not they closed off enough stuff that it wasn't too big for the number of players 🙂

i really hated the respawn points though...alotta railgunners out there abusing that 😉

lol, whattsa matter ? you don't appreciate good camping ?

rotflmao.. neither do I 🙂

i agree wit dudes. it must b how the games render. i know its not the maps, cause i never memorized them. the only advantage i have over other people is hardware: wacom tablets n 22 inch monitor.

isnt is also possible to cheat with codes in unreal too? some people in UT r untouchable! i swear!!

I was a hardcore Rocket Arena 3 player, but the cheating in Q3 engine games has really gotten to me.....RTCW has taken a wise approach to stopping cheating, and to my knowledge, there are no real RTCW cheats out there.....

UT is good as well, I have enjoyed playing DM in that game as well...

should be a good year for fps this year!

RA3 owns!
of course your position will vary in games.. UT has a crappy slow feeling engine while Q3 feels fluid, and has very fun physics.

We used to play Q2 at the office when I first got here and then once Q3 and UT came out we tried to those for awhile. It didn't take long before we ditched Q3 and were playing UT exclusively. It's hard to pinpoint, but we just liked the overall feel of the game more. Q3 was exciting, but really seemed more suited to deathmatch style play. We prefer team-based play and while there are some good team-based Q3 mods out there, we prefer just the straightforward CTF play found in UT. Plus, the bots are great (we tweak them all to give them unique characteristics) and the sheer volume of maps out there can't be beat IMO.

At home though I've DEFINITELY gotten addicted to RTCW. I love going into a server with 60+ people and getting lost in the carnage. I particularly like the class-based play (which is why TFC was always my favorite Half-Life mod) so I can get the chance to be a medic and go diving into the middle of a firefight to revive somebody. It's a different kind of challenge from the same old going in with guns blazing approach.

I admit i have not had much experience with Q3 but i did play it before i ever heard of UT, but once i played UT there was no going back...
UT is just so much fun, and i love the fact that there are a lot of weapons, each with their own style, control, and effectivness depending on the map.
I also agree with blakeatwork, definatly falls somewhere in the middle and i like that 🙂

Serious Sam SE! 😀

Yea I know its not as good as Q3 or UT but it is pretty fun and there are alot of little things that make it interesting. Switch to a knife and you run faster and jump higher, secret switches that trap people and you watch them get killed, all sorts of deathmatch secrets and places to hide if you use the knife right.
