I used the timedemo "four"; game was at maximum settings:

E6600 @ 3.0GHz, 7900GT 512MB at 650MHz/1510MHz: 655 FPS @ 1600x1200

X2 6000+ @ 3.0GHz (stock), 8800GTS 640MB @ 500MHz/1600MHz (stock): ~450 FPS @ 1680x1050

Is there really that big of a difference between the Athlon 64 X2 and the Core 2 Duo? Clock for clock, the Core 2 Duo is almost 33% faster. I know, I know, it's Quake III, but this might be interesting to you guys...

(I know the 8800GTS was running okay because I turned on ATITool and it was getting ~900 FPS in the 3D window while my 7900GT only gets about 670-700 FPS).

EDIT: Okay, screw the original topic; let's benchmark this sucker!

Game was at "Fastest", E6600 @ 3.0GHz, 7900GT @ 650MHz/1510MHz: 800 FPS

Game was at "High Quality", E6600 @ 3.0GHz, 7900GT @ 650MHz/1510MHz: 705 FPS

Bwahahaha! Eat that, GeForce3!

yes it's a well-known fact that core2 duo is up to 33% faster in some cpu-intensive games, than a64

Type in "r_smp 1" in the console then do a "vid_restart".

If you have trouble starting the game. Try to start it in realtime priority.

use this shortcut: (may need to be altered a bit)
cmd /c start /realtime c:\games\quake3\quake3.exe +set r_smp 1 -nosplash

sorry i cannot go higher than 1280

video card at 600/2000

1600x1200 max quality maxed out everything

900fps

2500 x 1500 (something like that) maxed everything

881fps

Graphics "fastest" set a blazing speed of 970 fps

Graphics "high quality" got a speed of 961 fps

blazing!

hmm in cs:s video test i used to get 220fps on my e6400 3.2ghz... now i get 270! :Q

I get 273 fps in the cs:s test with everything set to HIGH at 2560x1600 w/ 4xAA and 16x AF

I can break 1000 fps in q3 for sure. Maybe not at 2560x1600, but for sure if I lower the resolution.

1135 - fastest

1097 - high quality

I test at 1280x1024...because it's as high as my shitty monitor with go.

Just one question....why are we testing Q3A?

Is the demo done in like 5 seconds with 1135 FPS?

OP, you need to list exactly what settings you used
The presets "Fastest", "Fast", "Normal", and "High Quality" all have preset resolutions. "High Quality" uses 800x600, "Normal" uses 640x480, etc. Everything is included in there - bit-depth, geometric complexity, etc. I didn't change the resolutions unless otherwise noted.

I tested my setup with a Sapphire HD2900XT in it, that could be why.

I'm starting to like the 2900 more than my GTS.

SMP doesn't work for me, crashes the game with a whitescreen (need to end from task manager). Hasn't worked on this game for about 6 years.
