Quake II: v-sync problems

I can't get Quake II to break the 60 FPS mark! I have a Radeon 9600 XT with the Omega 4.5 drivers. I have v-sync disabled in the game and have tried both 'application preference' and 'always off' in the drivers. I have the same issue with Half-Life. But other than that, I don't have this problem with any other OGL game, old or new. I like to use Q2 as a continual benchmark for my new hardware. I did run driver cleaner before installing the card.

Anyway, almost all online searching results in articles from 1999, when Q2 was still relevent. ;) Any (useful) suggestions, or am I just SOL?

Well the only thing i can tell u may be obvious. It isnt the driver or your hardware at all. The games you are having this issue in must have it still enabled somehow. Im really not familiar with the settings in these games to know about vsync.

Why would you use this game as a benchmark? It doesn't use any of the DX9 or even DX8 features, and you will most probably be CPU limited!

p.s: why is your monitor's refresh rate set on 60? 85 is best for the eyes.

Make sure in quake2, you hit escape, then go to video and make sure sync every frame is turned off

seta r_finish 0 <--- sets V-sync OFF in Q3A

seta maxfps 125
seta com_maxFPS 125
seta r_displayrefresh 120

Look for variables like these in Q3A.
(do some Google on QII)

You sould setup a autoexec.cfg to execute your settings.cfg file,
with those variables and any other settings you want.

P.S> dont force display refresh to 120 if your monitor cant do it.

Yeah in quake, quake2, quake3, half-life/quake2+ there are console commands to uncap the frame rates just gotta look around the net for them.

I can't get Quake II to break the 60 FPS mark!
Where are you getting this information from?

If it is vsync then disabling it in the control panel will fix it.

seta r_finish 0 <--- sets V-sync OFF in Q3A
I'm fairly certain r_swapinterval does.

Your probably right,,, I lost some comments/identifiers in my settings.cfg
I took a guess.
